Fox Mill has Japanse immersion program. It’s good to hear that the Western will offer Japanese.
I think this settles it then - Fox Mill will be in Boundary, Crossfield will remain at Oakton.
Not sure how that settles anything. The Japanese immersion kids have to pupil place at Oakton if they want to continue Japanese now. They could just as easily pupil place at the closer Western HS. One random elective isn't enough to justify moving a whole school away from a high school that isn't even at 100% capacity.
No, that is not the case. Fox Mill ES has Japanese Immersion. Carson continues JI for the Fox Mill kids. Then they got o SLHS, which has Japanese. The SLHS kids that pupil place to Oakton use AP and Japanese to go there. Other kids who want AP will go to Herndon HS. Some will go to Langley for AP and Russian. Adding Japanese to continue Japanese Imersion is a clear signal that the new HS is expecting JI to be moved there.
So the new school gives Fox Mill a place to pupil place for AP and Japanese without further overcrowding Oakton. If they were announcing removing Japanese from SLHS then maybe you'd have something. Otherwise, all I see is a continuation of the status quo.
The new school is likely going to be the home of JI because Fox Mill ES is slated to move in 3 of the 4 scenarios. They would not offer Japanese for JI kids to pupil place. If they are offering Japanese, it is more likely that Fox Mill is moving to the new school. There are not enough SLHS student placing at Oakton for Oakton to have Japanese, there has to be additional interest in the language. I think something like 25 total SLHS kids pupil place to Oakton each year. SLHS has enough students to continue Japanese without the JI program. Kids from HHS pupil place for Japanese and there are kids from Hughes who start Japanese in MS. DS JI language class at Carson has 30 kids in it, it is not a huge group. There are other kids taking Japanese at SLHS. They would probably wait to see how many kids choose Japanese at the school before deciding if they are keeping it or getting rid of it. I would guess they will keep it.
