What's your take on prospect days at specific colleges?
Honestly? They are a way for college coaches to supplement their income. Most coach's double their yearly salary through camps, prospect days, hosted tournaments. If your kid is dead set on playing ball in college all the camps and tournaments are a necessary evil. The reality is that the sheer amount of tournaments and "recruiting events" out there make it hard of coaches to narrow down their field of recruits. It's much easier on them to first see if a kid has interest in their school vs cold calling every player they have ranked as a eight or higher based on 20 minutes of a summer showcase game. The guys doing most of the heavy lifting in recruiting are the assistant coaches and grad assistants, these guys are in their early 20's and not paid much. Make their life eaiser, let the know you are interested in them. I loved playing college lacrosse, it was a very special thing to be a part of and I am still deeply connected to the team today. However the whole "industry" that has been built up around getting recruited in the last decade has truly made me feel sorry for the kids going through it now. Make sure your kid likes the school and could seem themselves going there even if they weren't on the team. That's rule number one.
