Local media are starting to ask officials how much the search is costing "us." Reportedly somewhere "between 500,000 and 1 million" so far.
Which is like 10 times the money spent on pretty much ALL of the POC that have gone missing this year combined. It's too bad no one will care if I get murdered.
There are major faults in your logic that you don’t have the courage to be honest about or perhaps you are such a far gone racist that your perspective is distorted: Here’s the hard truth : the “ media” doesn’t give a damn about Gabby either , nor did they give a shit about Natalie Holloway or Joan Bennet - they just want to make money off of ratings . Period . It’s simple demographics: majority of spenders on products of companies advertised on these networks are white because majority of America is white . The fact that the story sells - doesn’t mean yours won’t - just find a forum that will back it with $$$$ . Your mistake is you thinking that the media grieve for anyone - maybe the news anchor does - but the execs making those decisions are same guys who supported the Harvey Weinstein of the world - who btw mostly targeted white women
You're calling ME a racist? Not the people who ONLY care that a white girl is missing? The reason the media gets such high ratings is because white people only care about good looking white people.
Your logic is child like. Consider this : in one breath you allege that ALL white people don’t care about you AND in the same breath ALL white people are obsessed with oppressing you and keeping you down. Which is it because they are diametrically opposed ? Here’s the truth : AA women are 3x more often the victim of violence by their partner - focus your attention there . THAT is what you should be trying to change and NO don’t even try to say that the reason AA men are beating the WH”t out of their gf and wives is because “ the white media made them do it “ or “ it’s cause of slavery . Deal with IT . Face IT . Maybe demand gun violence laws - gun bans and mandatory jail terms to end violence But NO instead, let’s play a zero sum game : No one can care about ANYONE- all lives are Sh”t No way that is gonna happen . Brian Laundrie and his dirt bag parents are in the news and are being hunted because they have seriously violated societal norms: 1) not manning up and coming forward in Shane when you kill a woman who loved you 2) parents lying to protect their son as opposed to doing the right thing knowing how we ALL feel as parents of our child was missing/ murdered 3) making public fools of the Utah police - BIG Mistake Brian - big mistake Piss off every grandma , grandpa , mom and COP in America and do it while being an unemployed LOSER and , yes, our society demands a correction - a prosecution and justice because THAT is how we uphold our values - ALL of our values - just like last Summer we all stood up because our values were violated Valuing Gabby doesn’t mean YOU aren’t valued
While I think you underestimate the cumulative effects of racism and slavery, you're dead on that this story is about violated social norms. And, the killed lesbian couple. I didn't perk up until I understood there were THREE dead ladies, in a national park. I mean, there are SO many national parks horror and true crime stories that I don't even know where to start. American Horror Stories just dedicated an episode to national parks (Feral) and the National Parks killers podcast is on its 11th season. Three dead ladies, in a park? That's fire.
So this is interesting, right? Where is all the news about the lesbians and who killed them? Nothing. You wouldn't know about them if it weren't for Gabby. They're not POC, but they are a minority and you can't relate to them, so you wouldn't really be focused or interested in that story, you'd just say "Oh, that's sad, I hope they find their killer" but there's not a thread about them, nobody is seeking out clues about them, I haven't seen any TikToks about the last time they were spotted, etc...
They were actually a story that was going on before Gabby's. And then they merged. I don't think you guys can back up your claims that only pretty blonde girls are featured in true crime. I'm a genuine true crime fan, I average 1-2 hours of true crime stories per day and much higher on weekend. While cleaning my house, I'm listening to murder. While walking my dog, those airpods are feeding me murder. I know my murder. And I can tell you-- and have receipts-- that pretty white women are actually a minority in this genre. Prove it otherwise. The only ones you can probably name are JeanBenet, Natalie Halloway, and now Gabby. That's what... one a decade? No, contrary to what's fashionable to claim, true crime and horror fans actually prefer the more obscure stuff with imperfect victims. Go look on Netflix and see who the victims are these days. People like complex story lines, interesting villains, and relatable victims. JeanBenet, may she rest in peace, is not relatable for most people.
But we're not talking about "true crime" aficianados such as yourself, we're talking about what takes over national media. That's two different things.
