Part of it is the fields and part of it is that as soon as they offer one, they cannot allow kids to go to other schools for sports not offered. And that makes sense, I get it. My kid is not a super serious athlete so he doesn’t care about that element all that much. They discussed busses to the 5 HS that kids could participate in sports at so kids can opt in and then play their sport at a different school, if they chose that. I would guess most kids interested in sports will attend the other school. But I could see a kid who doesn’t think they will make or get much playing time on a varsity team might choose the new school and then play there as a Junior and Senior where they might have a better chance of making the team. SLHS has won the state championship the last two years, I could see a kid looking at that and thinking they stand a better chance at Western. [/quote]
