[quote=Anonymous]This is an amazing thread and I'm so sorry for all the posters who were truly abused. My story is much lighter. I was born in 1961 and everything was different then. Everyone smoked - everywhere! Drinking was also a big thing - having martinis at lunch was so common and I started drinking at family parties when I was probably 11. We were constantly left unsupervised and I started smoking pot around age 12. Nobody wore seat belts (there were only lap belts in most cars), and helmets were non-existent. We never wore sunscreen (wasn't aware of its existence either). I grew up in a northern city where it snowed a lot. My dad (may he rest in peace) used to tie our sled to the back bumper of his car with a long rope, plop my brother and me on top of it, and drive us around the neighborhood. We thought it was sooooo much fun!! When we would get off the school bus in the afternoon, we would run around the back of the bus, grab on to the bumper, and then slide on the icey street holding on to the bus as it drove down the street. We called it "skitching." We had to make sure the bus driver didn't see it because she would slam on her brakes if she knew we were back there!! Just a couple of the crazy things we did in the 1960s!
