OT but I was wondering for those that do not speak Spanish at home, do Oyster (or LAMB) kids really become bilingual? I haven't met any immersion kids that don't speak Spanish at home already that are truly bilingual? If it happens, by what age?[/quote]

It is difficult for them, no doubt. What I have noticed with many anglo in late elementary and middle school years (Adams) is that, while not fully bilingual (English stays the main language) they are perfectly proficient in verbal Spanish (haven't seen written), much better than their parents think they are. They are fine speaking Spanish to native Spanish-speaking people (like me), but for some reason feel funny, perhaps ashamed, doing so around their parents.[/quote]
