I think she showed up in a good faith effort to try to make it work, but realized she isn't happy in NY and Don isn't happy in LA, so she suggested they "meet somewhere away from all the distractions" as a last ditch effort to save their marriage. However, it is clear to me that the marriage is over. [b]She was VERY happy on the plane ride home.

I think her looking happy on the way home meant that she thinks things are fine between Don and herself.  Don doenst' think so, from what he had said to Peggy, that he doesn't have anyone.
