When my rising 9th grader was in ES, they had school when there were special elections and on primary day. Either they had the election set up in the gym and there were people monitoring the doors or it was in one of the trailers. A small part of the school was disrupted. Clsing school on the 21 for a special election is ridiculous.
This. All the FCPS boosterS seem to live in a time warp, and believe no one remembers that school’s been held on election days, Veterans Day, etc.
It's because they aren't from Fairfax County and they have no idea. This board is flooded with outsiders who were told that there are political gains to be had in FCPS and they need to keep the narrative on track.
That explains some board members but wtf is with the random DCUM posters who act like school was invented yesterday and we never went on election days, never went to school veterans day, etc.
Certain Board members and the local Dem party have told activists to engage here. They hold a 12-0 Board in one of the biggest schools in the county. What happens in FCPS influences schools everywhere else in the US and if their policies fail it's backwards progress for the party. Or so they think/tell people. If you follow closely, some posters slip and say things like "well, my kids are in MoCo" or "I don't know anything about Fairfax schools but..." If you only know CA or NY or MD school systems, you wouldn't have any idea some things are new and that's why these out-of-area posters go slightly crazy thinking parents who want to return to the 2016 calendar want to time warp back to the 1950s. They aren't informed or particularly good at logic. They are here on a political ideological mission. It's best to ignore them.
This is a very transient area. A lot of parents with kids in FCPS today did not attend FCPS. They came from other school districts from other states or countries and have opinions on the school calendar that differ from yours.
