Laugh all you want, most my colleagues are stem and their kids are finishing up CS degrees. The sons are unmotivated and sulking at home. The daughters are working food service. Obviously it could be a fluke of my friend group but it's the pattern I' see. [/quote]

That's usually a boy problem. Girls tend to be more motivated, which is why more females have degrees than males.

It's a boy problem that was masked when jobs were undersubscribed. Now they need to put themselves out there, and the parenting conversations I'm hearing are, [i]how do I get this shlub to even try?[/i] I have a friend who's son is now two years out of college, very passive, very introverted, but does have a CS degree from Oregon State. Another who finished last spring, hardly leaves the house. I do know a girl who did CS at UMD and isn't working in field but is employed. Sure there are people with perfect kids who always grab the brass ring, but that ain't everyone...[/quote]
