Please remember Congress supports everything Trump said. If not, they should do something!
Republicans won’t do a thing. Europe and Canada are uncoupling from US and there’s no going back. They can’t take the chance on Democrats holding office forever. That GOP is going along with this is a signal we are too unstable. A banana republic every 4-8 years. I really don’t see a way out for a very, very long time. We’re now part of an alliance with Hungry and the Stans.
You do realize that if democrats take office, the damage is done. There is no going back now. America is on a fully new path now. There is a new world order. America elected an incompetent criminal. The rest of the world will never trust our electorate again.
The democrats can explain how it will take decades to rebuild the institutions and trust destroyed by the Trump administration and outline a plan to achieve that goal. But it won't change overnight or even a decade.
It's too late. The United States has a two party system. The entire world knows there will be a Republican administration every 4-8 years. The GOP has nominated Trump three times. They are all in with the nihilism and the gangster imperialism. That is the modern Republican Party. And it makes the US radioactive. Nobody can sign agreements with the US knowing that the next Republican will tear everything apart again. I think Carney's speech was very thoughtful. There has been a rupture in the international order. And nostalgia is not a strategy. There is no choice for countries but to decouple from the US and form new alliances and trade pacts. No Democrat can stop where the world is trending, which is to isolate the US as they do with Russia. In the end, China is the big winner in the new world - courtesy of the Republican Party.
India will also have a bigger voice. Wouldn’t count out the EU either which is investing heavily in R&D. Trump has been a wake up call. And for anyone who thought he could be appeased, today put that notion to rest. Now that no one needs to be hampered by kowtowing to the tech bros, the U.S. defense and service industries and big pharma, it should be interesting.
NATO countries without the US have a GDP of 27 trillion and a population of 610 million. I do not understand where people are buying the republican narrative that Europe is weak. Do you really think Russia with 1/5 of the population and a 1/14 of the GDP will dominate Europe? European NATO(without the US) could easily build out a military that could defeat the US military. Remember the US can’t even replace the missiles used to save Israel from Iran. We used up a 1/3 of the missiles in under 8 days. Russia is the odd country out trapped between China and Nato(without the US).
