Taking home 200k a year is not rich by DC standards. Obviously it's not poverty, but also not enough to afford a home within an hour's commute, living expenses and $100K in tuition (for 2 kids). What some people don't get, and most schools understand, is that a community of only the super rich and super poor is not socioeconomic diversity. It benefits everyone to include perspectives and contributions from kids whose parents are federal employees, small business owners and teachers.
+1
And, yet some of us do it and aren’t complaining about money. An hour commute would be a dream. My spouse commutes 90+ minutes each way, we live in a crummy little house that most here would refuse and diy mist everything. Our mortgage is under $2k. Buy and do what we want within reason and still save.
