What is a "pathway" it's a chance for the top kids to go to the top teams. A pathway isn't where entire teams go to the top leagues. When a kid is old enough, they'll tryout for the top team and they might go to NVA and play top, or go to Loudoun to play for their "top" team or their 7th.

A pathway is a chance to take it, it's not guaranteed for any kid. Because you have a chance to make MLS Next doesn't mean you will. Every year you should tryout to make sure 10 new kids aren't better than you to take your spot but I know that doesn't happen since parents would throw a fit if little Jimmy was told he's on the 2nd team this year when he was on the "TOP" team at 9 years old [/quote]

I am skeptical that a kid who has been playing for Loudoun East or RBFC or whatever has a realistic shot at a first or second team at Loudoun/NVA. If they're that good why aren't they already at Loudoun where the quality of competition is higher within and against other teams? The current Loudoun East teams play low division NCSL. How does that prepare kids for high level teams/leagues? Why put your kid in the position of having to try to break in to an established team at Loudoun/NVA when they get older? It seems like they are trying to poach good players from places like Herndon and GFR while they are young and selling them on this eventual pathway. But I don't understand why a parent would go for that when there are so many other options that keep kids playing with/against other top team players. I get wanting to follow a coach, but why follow them on a path to nowhere? [/quote]

Fair point if you don't look at the U-littles as a time to learn how to play the game, fall in love with it and develop.

What's the other option? Staying with GFR? The younger age groups for GFR are awful for boys. I watched their game against Loudoun East and you would think GFR was the team put together just a month before that game.

Since R(b)FC remains vaporware at this point hard to know but seems likely GFR is a better option — it at least has fields, coaches, and league affiliations — and if you don’t like that and are concerned about pathways McLean or Loudon would be better bets than a new startup.[/quote]
