Research continues to show that casinos have no or negligible impacts on crime: https://nij.ojp.gov/library/publications/does-presence-casinos-increase-crime-examination-casino-and-control https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0166046217300169 https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2014/07/140717114935.htm https://www.researchgate.net/publication/343820663_Casino_Gambling_Impacts_on_Crime_and_Public_Safety_A_Review_of_30_Years_of_Research
Have you ever been to one? or is this the pro-casino lobbyist
Have I been to a casino? Of course. We had native-run casinos in Minnesota where I grew up. Been to Vegas and New Orleans. I'm not a regular gambler, though I might pop in to play a couple quick rounds of keno if there was a show that I'd be going to. A casino is just an entertainment venue. I'm not sure why everyone thinks that you build a nice casino/hotel/venue in a place and it turns into Atlantic City. There aren't going to be prostitutes walking around Tyson's. If the argument is that we shouldn't promote gambling because it is an addictive vice, I understand that, but I'm not sure where you draw the line versus other ones. If your argument is that Tyson's will go to hell if someone builds a casino/hotel, that's not an informed opinion.
Casinos prey on the poor. Everyone thinks they are going to lure the whales, the high rollers, and with them the top entertainers and restaurants. No, we are just going to have a bunch of broke seniors trucked in here instead of MGM to gamble their SS checks away out of boredom, and a bunch of gambling addicts pissing away their kids’ college funds. If you want an entertainment venue, build an entertainment value. If it’s not sustainable without cleaning out every person who enters, then don’t build it.
This. Nobody needs a few artsy seasonal displays and a couple more mediocre overpriced restaurants in exchange for the misery of others. unlike Vegas that sells itself as a a vacation destination, all of these "residential" casinos are simply bankrupting locals, they are no tourist destinations. Tysons already has plenty of hotels for conferences, 2 huge malls for any festive displays and plenty of space for additional eateries in its mixed use buildings.
