Have I been to a casino?  Of course.  We had native-run casinos in Minnesota where I grew up.  Been to Vegas and New Orleans.  I'm not a regular gambler, though I might pop in to play a couple quick rounds of keno if there was a show that I'd be going to.

A casino is just an entertainment venue.  I'm not sure why everyone thinks that you build a nice casino/hotel/venue in a place and it turns into Atlantic City.  There aren't going to be prostitutes walking around Tyson's.  If the argument is that we shouldn't promote gambling because it is an addictive vice, I understand that, but I'm not sure where you draw the line versus other ones.  If your argument is that Tyson's will go to hell if someone builds a casino/hotel, that's not an informed opinion.[/quote]

You are wrong.  You either didn’t grow up by a casino or you had a blind eye towards its effects.  I grew up by a casino and later moved to another area close to a casino.  Didn’t want to but had to for other reasons.  Both areas sucked.  It doesn’t bring in the type of people that family oriented neighborhoods want, there is more crime, there will be prostitution.  Sure there will be more revenue for the state, but the neighborhoods around it will get more problems than they bargained for.  The benefits will not outweigh the negatives for the residents and community.  It will benefit Richmond, the builders, lobbyists, and politicians the most.  I enjoy going to some casinos like Vegas or the big ones for shows they might have, but living around one IS NOT GOOD.  No one I know that has ever lived around one liked it.  You are the first person I have heard that thinks a neighborhood won’t go to hell.  You are wrong, I’m calling you out on that.  Prove me wrong with resident testimonials that aren’t paid and not survey links.  And if you get a resident saying they like casinos, I’m gonna bet they are a gambler.[/quote]
