Food aid to Gaza has faced severe restrictions since Israel imposed a blockade starting March 2, 2025, halting all humanitarian and commercial supplies, including food, fuel, and medicine. As of late April 2025, no aid has entered Gaza for nearly two months, the longest such ban since the war began in October 2023. The World Food Programme (WFP) and UNRWA have depleted their food stocks, with WFP delivering its last supplies to community kitchens, which are expected to run out soon. Over 116,000 metric tonnes of food, enough to feed one million people for four months, and nearly 3,000 UNRWA aid trucks are ready at border crossings but cannot enter due to the closure. Food prices have surged by up to 1,400% compared to the ceasefire period (January 19 to March 18, 2025), exacerbating hunger. Community kitchens, a lifeline for many, are at risk of closing, and looting of limited supplies has increased due to desperation. Despite international calls to lift the blockade, Israel maintains it to pressure Hamas for hostage releases, while Hamas denies stealing aid.
