Israel does not want any moderate Arab government whatsoever. Syria was taken over by ex Al Qaeda/ISIS and Netanyahu celebrates. Gaza will not be cleansed of Hamas any time soon. People need to really examine Israel's habits in the region. Their perspective is extremism is good if its a means to an end and the number 1 threat is Iran wanting the Levant which is what they want.
Gaza may not be "cleansed" of Hamas yet, but Hamas has certainly been largely neutered. That reality is the only reason Hamas has agreed to release hostages - to give themselves some breathing room as the noose gets ever tighter around their necks. They're certainly not releasing hostages from any sense of humanity or remorse, or to save the civilian population from further harm due to their activity. This is a last-ditch effort to stave off annihilation. Israeli "habits" seem to be to crush terrorists wherever they are. The current government in Syria appears to Israel and to everyone else superior to that which it replaced, at least at the moment. Only time will tell. If Syria proves to be a launchpad for terror attacks against Israel, it will be dealt with accordingly. If the region stabilizes, it will be because Iran's proxies and dupes have been weakened to the point that further Iranian agitation would risk additional direct attacks on Iran itself. When Iran stops fomenting conflict, a possibility once they can no longer hide behind their sacrificial stooges in Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank, and other areas, it's possible that peace might replace the constant back and forth of terrorist attacks followed inevitably by retaliation which is worse than the attacks were.
