Exit poll. Labour 410, Conservatives 131. That's a 170 landslide majority but on the better end of Tory expectations. It's not a wipeout. smaller parties: 61 Libdems, one MP below their all-time record. And a whopping 13 Reform MPs. Also 2 Greens. 8 years ago, it was the Brexit vote, that had the same foreign/Russia influence, that happened in the US in 2016. Maybe England will try to undo that absolutely horrible vote as well.
That's an exit poll, let's see what the actual results are. Obviously Labour has a landslide majority but we'll see what the actual seat numbers are. As for undoing Brexit, that will take two to tango. The EU would have to let them back in. I doubt they're waiting with open arms.
I wouldn't take too much comfort in the Labour victory. They won a massive landslide but with only 35% of the vote. Their vote share was lower than the last two Tory victories even though those resulted in much smaller majorities. It was how the votes were divided among multiple parties and that the center right now has a threat in a new right wing party, splitting the conservative vote. There's no feelings of euphoria in Britain the way there was when Blair won in 1997.
I don’t know. Online people seem pretty pleased to be rid (relatively speaking) of the Tories. Gee I wonder why our “liberal media” isn’t making total hay out of this for the liberals like they did for the right wingers’ victories in other countries.
I read British papers. Left is always happy when right loses. But the papers are pragmatic. Starmer has low approval ratings. It's that the Tories were even more unpopular. John Cutice, who is the most respected polling authority in Britain, said Labour's landslide is massive but thin.
