Total NBA players alltime Dematha 22 Sidwell 2
Dematha is like Oak Hill or IMG Academies—it’s a sports factory. Academics are a distant second. Dematha should actually have way more than a total of 22 former NBA players. It’s hardly a school.
This might be the worst take of the entire thread.
Dematha comes in at #3 on this list (Oak Hill is #1). I stand by what I said. Dematha is a sports factory. It’s not a serious academic institution. https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/1680142-ranking-the-20-high-schools-that-produce-the-best-ncaa-basketball-talent.amp.html
They also have one of the largest number of NFL players in the country by high school. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t a “serious academic institution” if that is the case then no schools within the WCAC are serious because MOST of them have produced a several D1/Pro athletes. These schools often stand in the gap between some low performing publics and 50K independent schools that most families in this area can’t afford to pay for. Just because the school is serving athletes or a less affluent population does not mean that families aren’t sending kids there to receive a great education.
