Dp/ I don’t think she is similar to Palin in that regard. She’s a political animal and plenty smart. 
The problem is she and the rest of the GOP have been stewing in a hermetically sealed right wing media bubble. They have lost perspective, and have lost touch.  I don’t think they are aware of how off the mark they are. They don’t even understand the logical consequences of the legislation they’ve been pushing for the last 40 years. Like personhood at conception. 
Don’t get me wrong, democrats have some bone headed ideas too, but at least they are typically “new” ideas, and they tend to be open to course correction, like with “defund the police”. 
The sad thing here is that the republicans will learn the wrong lesson here.
