My upper grades kid is bored in math at school.  He's not bored in math at Mathnasium, likes the challenge and upbeat atmosphere, asks to go more than our twice weekly package allows.  Not encouraging his math talent in a city without ES or MS GT programs, that's...a bit much.

Exactly -- with all the factors folks are attempting to balance I don't get the need to second-guess everyone's choices. Sure if school quality was the ONLY/paramount factor to contend with, DC probably loses to the close-in burbs. But life is more complicated than that of course. [/quote]
