Our kids missed the annual 4th grade field trip to Jamestown this year, but I guess it's because Jamestown required a commitment and down payment LAST year and they weren't yet sure if field trips would be allowed at that point (Ugh). So I don't blame the teachers for this, or the school, just more the general sense of 'pandemic panic ' existing in Fairfax County, but it still sucks, because my kid had looked forward to that trip for years.
Our kid missed it last year and I don't think the school is doing it this year. It is a school by school thing. I have mixed feelings because it is the "big" field trip but it is so much time on a bus and not much time at Jamestown. I think we will be booking a long weekend in the area and go with some friends sometime in the near future. See Jamestown and Williamsburg and enjoy the trip instead of having it be rushed. They did go to the Natural History Museum this year, it sounded like a quick trip but DS enjoyed it. They are going to Luray Caverns as well. We have been before and it is pretty cool. I can fully see getting through the cavern and enjoying it in a few hours, it makes more sense to me then Jamestown does. And the drive isn't all that bad.
Honestly, 4-5 hours at Jamestown is plenty.
