Generally, if they agree with their views, and not just lip service, then they also would respect OP's views, too.

Sure.  But for existing “topics of potential political disagreement”, people can and do change their perspective over time.  And, of course, new issues continually come up.  If a relationship is premised on mutual respect first, I imagine that has a more likely chance of long term success, than a “we must agree politically” relationship.[/quote]
