Like many of you, when I went to my HYP school out of a massive public mediocre high school... I didn't go to office hours and I was terrified of speaking up in my small classes/seminars. Fast forward many years and my employer offered to pay for me to take a course as part of my continuing training and the instructor became my mentor, he was teaching the class as a side thing because he loved teaching. He got me to (finally) really participate in a small class and I ended up taking other courses through the same university. He had a really, really similar background and story to mine and someone helped him make the jump years and years ago.[/quote]
