Last time I heard it was less than 20%. Thought I heard the other day they have less than 1/2 that for the new regime. So 90% vote against surveillance testing. I think that it's overwhelming APS do not want this testing.
If Duran is smart, he'll allow winter sports to continue. Otherwise he won't have any test data for HS students in Arlington, since nobody is willing to give it to him.
Or, if he’s smart, he will resume sports in another week or two after the peak.
2 weeks to slow spread! Heard that one before. Meanwhile, gyms will be open, restaurants will be open, bars will be open. Arlington community centers will continue to be open, where much higher risk adults can play sports maskless. These people who want to put all the burden on our children are sick!
It's a sick empty gesture. These people think they can somehow get the positivity rates in the schools lower than the overall community. They can't. But they'll punish our kids as much as possible in the process, while high risk slobs fill restaurants, bars, and ERs.
So go scream at the slobs in the restaurants and bars. You're fighting the wrong battle here. (Not sure what you're referring to about ERs.)
The slobs aren't preventing kids from having a childhood. Duran is.
No. COVID is. Duran is responsibly navigating an impossible situation. We get it. You are so full of anger and you have chosen him as your target. We can all do things to minimize absences. Focus on the things you can control instead of irrationally shrieking into the ether.
Duran has made himself a target by putting himself on an island. Nobody else in VHSL is threatening to cancel sports. Am I supposed to believe that Duran is smarter than everyone else?
I am thankful he is willing to prioritize academics over athletics. We want our kids in classrooms more than we want them on wrestling mats.
I have to say this from the perspective of someone who is not an open school now person… I don’t see the point of the sports cancellation. Most kids who make middle school or high school teams are already playing on travel/club teams. Those have not stopped! So these kids have never stopped playing sports this whole time. I know mine haven’t. Only APS teams and Arlington County rec sports stopped. Not futsal, not travel basketball, not hockey, not swimming and other clubs sports.
Duran thinks that by doing this it will convince you that he prioritizes academics, and you'll ignore everything he didn't do last year.
