I was just looking at the IB program at Jefferson. It looks like it is not an option program for anyone outside the TJ boundary. Is that the case? And wouldn't it make sense to open that up to lottery to help move some kids? Also, who gets to be in the program? Is there an internal lottery within the school?
That's correct. It is not a lottery program. There used to be some seats available for transfers in; but Jefferson is overcrowded. Some students are being redistricted to Jefferson from Gunston next year; so they're already moving some kids. There is no lottery within the school. Unlike WL, the Jefferson IB program is the program for all students. Randolph Elementary also has an IB curriculum, same situation. W-L, however, students choose to do the program full-time or they can just take some IB classes....unless you are a transfer into the school from somewhere else. Then you have to be full-time IB. Isn't Arlington grand?
I’m not sure about this upcoming year, but I know several people who transferred/lotteried into the tj ib program from outside the boundary. They are in 7th/8th grade this year so maybe they just stopped the lottery recently.
