Assault weapons ban already failed and was withdrawn. Even before that, grandfathering was added to the bill. Here’s what’s going to happen — feel free to bump this in 6 months. We are getting background checks, red flag laws, 1-handgun-a-month, and possibly some other restrictions. None of these will do anything to reduce gun violence, of course. But there will be no assault weapons ban or seizures of property (other than red flag). This is going to seriously derail the rest of the Dem agenda, and it’s going to tie up the courts for awhile. Afterwards, look for a re-reddening of a lot these districts. This gun control crusade will ultimately be very, very good for Republicans and possibly even for Trump in 2020.
Last paragraph nails it. This was a giant overreach by Governor Blackface, and dems are going to lose seats over this. Possibly even their majorities. 2020 and 2021 are going to be payback years for VA gun owners who were lackadaisical about voting. When 95% of your state declares itself a second amendment sanctuary in just a few weeks, that doesn't bode well for the reelection of many dems in those places. People learned a lasting lesson here. Not just people in Virginia, but all over the country. They learned that when dems get power, the very first they do is start a gun grab. Before they did anything help poor people, to protect the environment, to build a better economy, or anything else to address the real everyday needs of Virginians, they set about taking guns away from people who weren't criminals. That's dems. That's what they do. Their number one priority is taking guns away from people who aren't criminals.
No one is taking your guns away, Sally. No need to get so hysterical.
Serious question, because this fascinates me: do you really - I mean REALLY - think literally anyone is ever going to fall for the "no one is trying to take your guns away" song and dance anymore? Because dems have been very outspoken and upfront the last couple years about doing just that. Taking guns away. More accurately, taking MOST guns away. And in Virginia, they immediately set about doing it as the very first order of business when they convened. Only a massive pushback from nearly the entire state made them realize they size of the hornets nest they had just kicked, forcing them to drop their centerpiece legislation that would've banned the most commonly-owned guns in the state. But why do you prattle on with the "no one is trying to take your guns away" meme, when literally everyone knows you are? Are you just not even paying attention? Is it because your hatred and contempt for people like me is so strong it makes you imagine that we're so stupid we'll believe anything you say? Do you think we're not paying attention? Why? I mean, I just don't get it. I assumed you'd be smarter, I guess. Do you remember "Baghdad Bob"? From back in 2003? The Iraqi Minister of Public Information? Remember how he'd hold a press conference and talk about how the Iraqi Army was crushing the Americans and driving them into the desert? While behind him, off in the distance, you could see American tanks driving by? Remember that? Yeah, that's what you sound like when you say stuff like "no one wants to take your guns away". You're Baghdad Bob.
