You can't see to fathom that people have different dietary needs. They are resorting to snacks because the host is not meeting these needs or won't let them leave to get food. While I can easily go 8 hours without food, my husband lifts and when a meal doesn't have enough protein, he's starving. My mother has a very fast metabolism and feels ill and weak when she's hungry. She never travels without nuts, because that helps in a pinch. Neither of them would do well without something between breakfast and dinner.

Grab a piece of fruit, go outside and eat it.  There is absolutely no need to be in/out of the kitchen all day snacking and dropping crumbs everywhere.  There is no need to be secretly stuffing your face in the guest room.

NP. BKL, again, some more: DO YOU GET THAT NOT ALL OF US HAVE ACCESS TO FRUIT FROM A "CLOSED KITCHEN"?
