Was with a son of a Bullis board member last night in Bethesda. 4 Administrators and 2 Board members were on the committee that was looking into some internal issues w the program. They started in June. Talked to roughly 10 parents on the team of varying ages, as well as some club owners in DC and Virginia. Didn’t like what they heard, which started whole process of moving on from current coach. Eventually voted 6-0 to move on and interview candidates. Then it became public and administration couldn’t handle the pressure, thus the mess. My buddy’s Dad is pretty darn annoyed at whole thing. The whole mess has really endangered the future of the program. Plenty of blame to go around, that is true. Board, JB, DCE, Administration. Pick whatever order you’d like.
What a s-show. What specifically did the committee not like? What was so bad that it would outweigh the recent successs of the program?
A high school sports program should be about the students who attend the school playing the sport at the school. It shouldn’t be about bringing in some allegedly stronger players to play instead. This is high school - ‘building the program’?? It’s not a pro sports team. There are so many completely insane parents around these days. So so many. I guess that I should go back to the Stone Age , but this is all so stupid.
Agree re 'insane parents'. Again, need to get facts straight. The 2 Board members already in bed with DCE requested a committee because the DCE coaches didnt' like that HC changed their roles on the team after a spate of losses early in the season culminating with the Landon loss. HC changed the roles because HC saw a need for change and that change paid off - the team morale improved and the team started to win, all the way to IAC championship. However, because the DCE coaches and a few disgruntled parents couldn't see beyond their own self-interest they continued to undermine the success of the program and Bullis School. Don't forget this all goes back to DCE wanting to make money off of Bullis and deciding a couple of years ago that the only way to do it was to consistently undermine HC, collude with a couple of Board members, fuel dissent with a few disgruntled parents and try to take over program. Not with integrity and not with quality leadership.
Agree it’s insane for sure. The whole sad affair. Question as you only reference the Board members in your post being in bed with DCE. What about the 4 Administrators that also voted for a coaching change? What do you thin there motives were? Doesn’t seem to all add up, though most of it does.
