Of course, it takes a toll.  But, let's be real--anytime a president has a residence in a neighborhood, it takes a toll.

Ask people in Hawaii how they felt about Obama's Christmas visits.  Traffic was horrendous and the highways shut down whenever he was in transit.  Other tourists were also affected.
Ask the people in Chicago who lived in Obama's neighborhood.  Do you think there was not security there?

I'm guessing the Crawford ranch did not cause as much of a problem--except for Cindy Sheehan camping out.  But, I'm guessing Kennebunkport is pretty much a mess when Bushes were president.
And, I'm sure if Clinton had been elected that Chelsea's apt building would have extremely tight security.
