that is [b]self reported gun ownership[/b], not actual gun ownership which is estimated at aobu 60%.! People telling a stranger that they have a gun at home despite all modern training not to. It is estimated to be a 50% under-count, ie about 60% of Americans own  guns.

DC has 26% percent gun ownership in five peer received studies. GSS which is face to face recorded answer gets 1% people -- especially in cites, especially people under 50, and espcially minorities  -- do not tell pollster they have a gun! Would you??

why do you think over the past 30 years NRA approvals of all Americans went UP from 38% to 58% and the number of people who know a firearm makes home saferfrom crime went UP from 35% it 63% the past 30 years? If you are not a criminal, owning a gun makes our household about 20% safer from violent crime than the average household.
