I agree that Arlington itself isn't going to be a deciding factor in this race, but I still found it interesting. It's not uncommon to not see Republican volunteers at polling places on off years when we're just electing local officials (because the Republicans typically don't even put up candidates for those), but I don't remember the last time we had a governor's race and there wasn't a single person there from the Arlington GOP handing out sample ballots. Given how tight this race is, if anything I would have thought that both parties would have people everywhere they could to try to capture those last few voters who are wavering. Maybe my polling place is just a fluke, but I do wonder if the lack of any republican representation there indicates that republicans are feeling a bit more lukewarm about their candidates, and thus not so enthused about coming out in crappy weather to help them win.

It's also interesting to me that even though I'm hearing reports that turn-out numbers around here have been high so far, none of my local Republican friends who have always posted "I voted" Facebook status updates in the past have been silent so far. Maybe they just haven't gotten there yet, but my Democrat friends have been turning out in droves. Obviously me looking at my Facebook feed is about as far from scientific as it gets, but it does feel like there's an enthusiasm gap here in northern Virginia. If the turn out really is high but the Republicans are staying home, it's cause for hope.[/quote]

I haven't noticed that gap at all, at least in real life discussion.  FB is a different matter and I know my liberal friends [b]*love*[/b] to make statements on FB.  I think the difference is that my Republican friends don't feel the need to virtue signal.  Every liberal friend I have rushes to FB or Instagram to document any "cause" they take part in.  Really annoying.[/quote]
