I was adopted. DNA indicates one half of my family is Mormon from many areas. There were, apparently some affairs, so... No one expected DNA. Nothing appears as it is. Secondly, there has to be gay LDSers...so what happens to them?
Usually it's not pretty. At the minimum, there's an excellent chance it will cause a rift between the gay person and their friends and family. Depending on the location, the members of their local ward (similar to a diocese but for Mormons) will either be reasonably accepting but still expect the gay person to be celibate for life, or they'll try to pray away the gay and ostracize the gay person and possibly their family. If we're talking Utah/ Idaho/ parts of Arizona and Nevada, it's usually the latter. In the DC Metro area, people are a lot more relaxed and while it's not viewed as really "acceptable", your family probably won't be shunned as long as everyone is coughing up their tithing. The number of gay, actively practicing LDS people is probably quite low, although some will stay in the closet until their elderly parents or grandparents are dead to avoid confrontation. There's a serious problem with teen and young adult suicides in the Morridor and a lot of these are gay youth who can't deal with the pressure of either coming out to their family or being treated like a leper by most people they know once they do. I don't want to link to their main site on here because I'm not sure what the rules on that are, but there's a great resource group called "Mama Dragons" for mothers of GLBTQ LDS children and young adults and they are an excellent resource for parents.
