If a school offers full AP courses and also offers anything practical or "vocational" why do you disparage it? Legit question. My son got some MS certifications and an AWS cloud certification in high school. He is getting a PhD now in Machine Learning and if I told you the total comp paid in AI/ML post doc positions you would not believe me, so I wont. It was part of his journey of pushing himself at ever level. All the same, wondering why people think AP courses mixed with practical skills or certifications is something to make fun of. I don't get the joke.
Because they have no class. They think they are elite, but they are not too smart.
I work in academia and agree with this. Students with some practical skills are more likely to get to work in faculty labs earlier in their undergrad career, which can help them build their CV/resume. I imagine it would help with getting internships too. Excellent grades with no practical skills are not what people are looking for. Many would rather take a student with good grades and some skills, than top grades and no skills. Students can get really good at playing the game of earning high grades while being clueless on how to function in a lab or work setting where you have to learn quickly and figure out when to troubleshoot on your own and when to ask questions.
