I’m not convinced mom being a junkie is even true. He lied about her being the high school valedictorian (or salutatorian). Mom being a POS junkie with no self-control was a narrative the Sackler family certainly appreciated.

Does the mom have a criminal record? Was her nursing license ever suspended? Fired from her job?

It was the core of him having this allegedly tumultuous childhood. Take away mom being a pill junkie and he’s raised in a decent and safe middle of Ohio suburb (nowhere near Appalachia), in a stable two parent household, both parents gainfully employed, a step-dad who loved him enough to legally adopt him and give him his surname, with nearby grandparents who made enough money to buy a new Buick every year.[/quote]
I wonder about that too. I read the book when it came out. A lot of hayseed/rube stuff (his Memaw was out of central casting) and the whole thing was a type of rags-to-riches story. It was probably all fiction. [/quote]
