The bottom half of the WCAC is horrendous (O’Connell, Ireton, MacNamara) The upper half (SJC, PVI, GC, GZ) and the upper half of the IAC (Bullis, GP, Landon) are on par. The middle tier of the WCAC (Ryken, DeMatha, Heights) are likely on par with the likes of STA, Episcopal, and Saint Stephen’s. Personally I think both leagues are “down” this year or maybe they are now taking a back seat to the big boys in New England West.
O'C, McN, and BI do not even try to pretend that they care about Lacrosse. The kids are always great kids, but they rarely compete. SMR, DM and TH try, but they are all either lousy or incomplete. SMR is like O'C McN and BI most years except for last year. They are again horrendous. They were a one year wonder. TH is too small to be competitive and can't stop people from scoring. DM is likely done as a serious program until they get a 5th new coach, again. After the F/O there is literally not one player that would start on a decent team. GC is new to the upper tier but it looks like they could/should be there for a while. PVI just needs to learn that the season lasts until May. SJC kids need to stop believing their own hype or the coach needs to go to his 60 man bench that also contains D1 commits multiple 3 & 4 star kids. If the kids on the fields are liabilities, give someone else the opportunity. It will make the hyped-up kids play harder. GZ looked like they may follow DM a descent to mediocrity at 0-5, but they have rallied and might be the class of the league in a down year. They embarrassed DM on Tuesday. It is a four team league. The IAC is a three team league. They should combine the top four from each league and relegate/elevate two teams each year. Then the teams will either compete to get better or settle for being part of high school team making lifelong friends at a sport in which their school did not excel. Both models are okay, but they need to stop playing each other and stop wasting everyone's time. The bottom tier team's kids are still great kids, but they are not going to win a lacrosse game against the upper tier kids who have been playing lacrosse for two decades. Make each game matter.
