Courts rarely ever resort to foster care for kids who have someone willing to take them. Even parents who are questionable get so, so many chances. I have seen so many kids that should never go home with their parents, but do. Multiple CPS investigations, multiple concerns. Yet the threshold to determine how bad home has to be for child to be taken away is so high. Similarly, when a loving family member (ideal or not) becomes a viable option, it takes a lot of questionable behaviors for a flag to even be raised high enough to make them start thinking about removing child from that custodian. Our foster system is completely overwhelmed. Kids don’t go to foster care just because their situation isn’t ideal.[/quote]
