Uhm… I give a $#!+.  My son is on a BSC 1st team and I am trying to avoid DCU at all costs for other options.

I am sorry if you think BSC is going down but this is a relevant topic to those kids who actually have kids who are good.

My kid has already played in a Spanish academy and been invited to train with a German academy through local coaching  contacts in the mid-Atlantic.  There is not a major difference between our kids and EU kids at the younger ages.  They separate by the age of 15 and if my kid does not have to lose ground, I would like to learn how.

This conversation is probably only relevant for 10-20 kids in the DMV who have kids passionate enough and a family who will actually support the passion.  I would suggest you find another troll post to scheme off as this is actually the most productive conversation on DCUM in while. We will skip over the Athletic Bilbao reference as I have only met one person here in the State from the Basque Country who would qualify to play for them.

Let's say you have two kids, one from BSC and one from DCU, trialing with Tottenham.  Both equal players and have shown equally in front of scouts.  BSC does not get any fee but DC United wants $50k from Tottenham.

Who is going to get the nod?  You can replace BSC with Achilles, Armour, Arlington, etc.  Based on the details in this conversation, if my kid is approached by a MLS academy, I may try to determine what they would like me to pay as the "cost of his training" in order to maintain his right to transition for free.  This is business and negotiations and it does not hurt to have these conversations.

PP mentioned "legitimate" academy.  The most "likely" route for most Americans will be a Category 2 academy per the UK system or equivalent in other countries and then work your way up. Or you could ask DCU if you could just be a future player and still play with your existing club.  You get the best of both clubs and retain your rights. You train and sometimes play with DCU and you can also play with you local P2P.  To me, this is the best path at DCU given how poor of an academy it is.[/quote]
