Stephen from Summer House posted some old homophobic/transphobic tweets of Candiace. Guess Bravo wasn’t serious about digging through people’s old social media posts.
Those tweets are awful. She most definitely should be fired.
I agree. Can’t wait for her defense tho.
She put out a statement. I don't know, it was 10 years ago. I don't really care about something she said 10 years ago. It was stupid but this was before gay marriage was legal and before trans rights were discussed. https://twitter.com/candeegal?lang=en
From her pageant nonsense bio (https://www.pageant-smart.com/meet-the-smartsquad):
In 2009, she founded an organization called My Sister’s Keeper, a mentorship and women’s empowerment organization designed to give young girls the opportunity to interact with other women in their communities. Her call to service was only reinforced during her tenure in the White House Offices of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, where she liaised between the White House and the African American Community for President Barack Obama. She later traded in her suit and heels for the campaign trail where she served as a staffer for the 2012 Presidential Campaign.
Somehow she'd been trained in media presence and public speaking since she was a teen, but still felt comfortable saying that gay men disgust her in 2010-11. I hope you realize gay marriage becoming legal wasn't the starting point for not saying gay people are disgusting, it was pretty much the finish line. I also think it's strange that she emphasized she was just a private citizen in her apology, since she must have been competing for Miss New Mexico right around then, and was running an NGO. I don't need to see her tarred and feathered or anything but the whole point of these stupid pageants is supposed to be to teach poise and professionalism (::gag::) but we're also supposed to be like "oh, who didn't say they were 'disgusted' by gay men in their 20s" when anything untoward comes up. She also worked on the Obama campaign the next year, which she always brings up as her crowning professional achievement, so the idea that she was just a stupid kid doesn't wash. She was trained in media from a young age and still said all this. But her current Twitter account is vile too, so no real surprise there.
