You're right. This type of deal is part of how DC has functioned for decades. People with connections and money ignore laws and regulations, and get their pet politicians to give them access to public goods to the detriment of the citizenry as a whole. Historically, it was easy to get away with because the public didn't have a quick and easy way to organize resistance.

Now, rent seekers like Maret and their friends like Jack Evans are upset that their dirty deeds quickly come to light, and the people who they victimized are able to organize against them. That's why the Maret backers were whining at the Council hearings. [/quote]
