KAA does not affect GF in any way.
Per an anonymous FairFACTS Matters poster tonight: "This is the setup to move Forestville to Herndon. First overcrowd Langley, then the shuffle for the new high school will leave Herndon with lots of space, then next year they will cry 'transportation efficiency' [and move kids from Langley to Herndon]." Funny
Paranoia. The new school has no effect on Herndon.
Of course it does. It removes the possibility that Herndon south of the toll road would be redistricted to fill the 500 empty seats at Herndon HS.
That also spawned the Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations letters on the KAA site as a magnet and the Oct 2025 letter against implementing AAP in every middle school with no transfers. That means Herndon MS AAP continues flowing to Hughes likely bumping the IB diploma candidate count, mega Carson Franklin feed, Rocky Run no substantive base school boundary changes so it can accommodate Liberty and Stone AAP. Research who is in FCFCA, current and past officers. Gerry Connelly got his start in that organization. https://www.fairfaxfederation.org/_files/ugd/8bf868_d128de909f284981a476bef5d4429396.pdf https://www.fairfaxfederation.org/_files/ugd/8bf868_5ebff0a2e8ef4d2eb2604f707fce5c34.pdf
AAP students from Hughes have been attending SLHS for a while now, the IB numbers bump has not happened. Fifty kids completed the IB diploma last year. The Hughes students can transfer for IB or for Japanese, which they can take at Hughes and continue at SLHS but not HHS.
Historically how many South Lakes IB diploma candidates have been base school Herndon? This AP Herndon to IB South Lakes is the only one in FCPS that's volumes incoming for IB. Skip Edison because it has Global STEM. Japanese Immersion is at Fox Mill and JIP also used to be at it's neighbor [contiguous boundaries]Floris. A merger but Great Falls with low enrollment/attrition still has JIP. Immersion MS transition for Japanese is at Carson and Cooper, not Hughes. https://www.fcps.edu/academics/middle/world-languages/middle-school-immersion-transition-program
Yes, JII is at Fox Mill, my kid participated, but there is Japanese offered at Hughes and kids continue it into HS at SLHS. I don't know if the do the Japanese 1/2, like non-immersion kids do at Carson, or if they walk over to SLHS for Japanese. We have friends at Hughes who have mentioned walking to SLHS for some class. Part of the argument for moving Fox Mill to Hughes has been that there is support for the JII program at Hughes.
