I heard that he had a drawer full of candy in his desk that he only told certain kids about. He kept it so these special kids would come back and visit him. I was told that other teachers felt uncomfortable about this but did nothing to stop it and looked the other way. Now when they look back they feel sick because they see that they may have ignored clear warning signs.
Deeply, deeply disturbing. Maybe Sidwell's culture needs to be examined if things like this are tolerated amongst the teachers..
This is totally not true. I've had several conversations with the principal and there were no signs. Stop spreading nasty rumors. A candy drawer?? Really?? He taught eight graders, not three year olds.
Ummm. I hate to burst your bubble, but the principle is not going to tell you about any signs, when they have not gone public with anything other than how they addressed the issue. I don't know if the rumor is true or not, but the fact the teacher was having students over to his home would definitely be considered a "red flag" in this day in age. I'm not criticizing the school, because the candy issue if true is a classic example where 20/20 makes one see "red flags" that they never would have picked up on. It is a very sad situation - truly every parent's nightmare... but could happen anywhere. It's truly horrific how these perverts are drawn to schools. Sidwell and Beauvoir both did their best handle extremely tragic incidents. The only difference is that Beauvoir's guy fled the police. Sidwell's teacher didn't run. I hope all schools review and update their codes of conduct for teachers. A few rotten apples spoil it for the rest. Sad but true.
