Oh geez.  Look, I think it was absolutely ridiculous for the U.S. To get involved in Vietnam.  The toll there was horrific, if anyone is ever there I encourage you to check out the War Renembrance museum in HCMC.  Very poignant.  It's amazing that the country doesn't appear to harbor a great deal of ill will towards the U.S., I wouldn't blame them if they did.

That said, most of the U.S. soldiers who served were drafted.  What were feasible alternative options for draftees besides having a legal deferment or moving to Canada?  The soldiers were largely pawns in a larger game that they didn't control, and many vets are still suffering the consequences today.[/quote]
