Well there's two discussions here. Is Donald Trump an asshole? Question # 1. And is John McCain a war hero? Question 2.

Trump's analysis is wrong and disrespectful because he asserts, as you say, that McCain is not a hero because he wasn't rambo.

However, I do not think McCain is a war hero because he participated in an unjust campaign that was unjust.

The logic of calling McCain a war hero is the same logic used to call confederate officers war heroes.

There is nothing heroic in taking up arms for an unjust cause.
