Having lived in the Middle East I can tell you for a fact that just about every man in the middle east has heard this report by now. It fuels their fear , particularly among muslim women that if they try to immigrate to America or want wear a head scarf in America , they will become the target of a hate crime.

As most middle east societies barely tolerate other religions at all, and there is often violence between groups, this is already their default assumption of what might happen in the " west" , which they see as overwhelmingly " the other" and/or christian.

Its pretty hard to convince them that we are a tolerant society with freedom of religion and separation church and state when something like this happens and the news goes round the world.

The only thing that can be done now is political leaders, such as US Atty , Obama need to go on TV and declare this a hate crime and send message the killer is absolutely being condemned for his actions . Whether he was out of his f'ingmind or not really means nothing politically and is just a distraction[/quote]
