The headlines are giving the impression that Bruce Jenner caused the accident. However, it was the driver of the first car--the Prius that had slowed or stopped which caused the now deceased driver of the Lexus to rear end it and then Bruce Jenner rear ended the Lexus which then moved out into oncoming traffic and was hit head on by the Hummer driver.
Do you have the link to that (or what article you are reading?) Yes tmz has pretty much stated he caused the accident. There are some huge legal ramifications, I think, based on my experience: Interestingly enough, my DH was in LA and involved in almost this exact fact pattern except for nobody went out of line. Two cars crashed on the freeway, and DH was behind them. He braked hard and slid into the stopped rear of the second car--tapping it and giving it the mildest dent. DH was considered at fault for the whole thing. We tried to fight it. CA has strict liability for the driver who hits anyone in front of them. We tried arguing that it was in fact two accidents: First, the accident involving the two cars, then DH sliding into the second car--the second accident being only the slight dent. They wouldn't buy it. Then the driver of one car claimed they were hurt--probably BS based on DH's interaction with them, and certainly not because DH tapped the second car. It was SO frustrating. So as this story unfolds, I'm going to watch to see if press articles are talking about Jenner actually being at fault by causing the accident, or just *legally* being at fault due to the strict liability statute.
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-bruce-jenner-texting-fatal-crash-20150209-story.html
