At the time, I took it to mean that she still had some ambivalence about losing her virginity, or the sex, itself, wasn't that great (as it often isn't, the first time). So in retrospect, maybe it was affirming that she wasn't sexually interested in men. And she was very taken with that guy (can't remember his name). But it could have been that she was more taken with who he was (not middle class/ideal childhood) and his dedication to the soup kitchen where he worked. He really showed her a side of society that she had been pretty insulated from.[/quote]
