I get assistance from a food bank. We get white rice, white bread, and white pasta. The fruit is bananas. The vegetables are carrots and canned or bagged white beans. I don’t know who decides what to put in the food box, but they either think we won’t eat whole grains or whole grains are too expensive. We end up with the unhealthiest version of everything.
I don’t mean to sound like a jerk but even white pasta and white rice can make the basis for some pretty healthy meals depending on what you put on top.
OMFG, that's the whole point! There's nothing to put on top. Damn...
No, the point of your original post was that you receive white rice/pasta instead of whole grain rice/pasta. Or at least that’s how you wrote it. You didn’t even mention putting a protein on top of the rice or pasta… (not pp, but your response was rude to pp and out of proportion!). Also I’m assuming you also get WIC/SNAP and you’re getting free food so it is what it is. You can also BUY whole grain rice/pasta at the store like the rest of us.
Yep. Imagine complaining about the food someone gave you FOR FREE. Boo hoo the only fruit was banana!!!! Okay? WHITE rice and WHITE pasta, oh the horror!!! Not beans and carrots!! There is literally nothing wrong with any of those things.
