• Suspect identified: The FBI identified the lone suspect as Mohamed Sabry Soliman and said he yelled “Free Palestine!” during the attack. He faces multiple felony charges and is expected to appear in court later this afternoon.

• Suspect’s history: Soliman had applied for asylum in the US and was denied a visa to enter the country in 2005, sources told CNN. He was in the US illegally, a Homeland Security official said today. The suspect entered the US in August 2022 as a non-immigrant visitor and was granted a two-year work authorization in March 2023. That visa expired earlier this year.

• Community outcry: Jewish leaders called for action against attacks on their community in the wake of rising antisemitic violence and threats. Less than two weeks ago, two Israeli Embassy staff members were shot dead in Washington, DC, by an attacker who yelled “Free Palestine!” while being arrested.

Everyone is saying that if DHS-ICE focused their resources on tracking down those who overstayed their Visas, he might have been off the streets by now. And immediately after he does, DHS is able to give a lengthy history on him and say that he's been making plans like this for a year. In an entire year, no one noticed? No red flags went up? This is the crux of the immigration issue. Trump is working to get illegal aliens out of our country and democrats are working desperately to prevent him from doing that and keeping illegal aliens here - even those who have committed violent crimes.  Quite a stark difference. [/quote]
DP. It’s not an either or. You can still give people a chance to be heard before deporting them. For example by hiring more asylum officers and immigration judges. But instead they’d rather waste money by illegally firing a bunch of feds and then paying them out down the line because they didn’t want to use appropriate procedures. [/quote]

They are here illegally.  If they wanted to apply for asylum, they could have done that when they showed up.  Instead they wait until they are caught.  This is just an attempt to avoid deportation, not actual fear of something from which they are requesting sanctuary.[/quote]
