for me personally, I will benefit from the GOP tax policy and for the rest of it, I can only hope enough Americans are so negatively impacted that things turn for the 2026 elections. What is protesting going to do? change Speaker Johnson's mind? Leader Thune's mind? Elon's mind?
This is me exactly and how so many of my Democratic friends feel. We are wealthy enough that we'll benefit from his tax policies. The other asinine policies he puts in place won't harm us. If drug prices raise, eh, no biggie. I can afford it. But you know who can't? My Maga relatives in WV who are poor. My Maga relatives who had to crowd-source funds to buy insulin in the past. My Maga relatives, who have believed the lies of and voted for every Republican since they were old enough to vote, who relied on me to pay for them to attend family vacations. My Maga relatives who post publicly about kicking everyone off government assistance while privately asking me for money to cover their rent, utilities, buy their kid's gifts, etc. I did a lot and gave a lot leading up to the election. I campaigned non-stop for Harris. And frankly, I just don't care now. I'm exhausted. Trying to get them to see the error of their ways and proof of Trump's lies is like screaming at a brick wall. It's totally useless. So, let it all burn down. I'll get richer. They'll get poorer. Maybe they'll learn. Let's hope they learn. If not, I'll still be wealthy enough to where nothing the orange bozo does will hurt me. But the Bank of Me is closed. I'll still send gifts to their kids on their birthdays, but that's it. I'm not paying their rents and mortgages. I'm not flying everyone for spring break and summer vacation. I'm done.
This. We finally realize MAGA is a cult and no amount of reasoning is going to help. Their wake up is going to hurt.
I'm in this mental space as well. I am done with that MAGA adult family members who always have their hands out. It's time the MAGAs pull themselves up by their bootstraps like my parents did. The next four years may end up being awful for them, but it's what they wanted.
I think it’s going to get awful a lot faster than expected. Everyone consoled themselves with soothing words about the tax cuts and how it wasn’t so bad the first time. They did not adequately account for all the people around Trump who told him he couldn’t change the constitution with an EO. Now he’s surrounded by ignorant sycophants and it’s going to be a mess.
There is a reason for the long list of republicans that won’t work with him or endorse him. His last team had to stop him from doing crazy stuff and this time it’s only loyalists who won’t pushback and he didn’t control congress last time. It is going to be much tougher this time.
