Dartmouth College is the most under-ranked LAC. This is due to playing in the Big league among National Universities.
Dartmouth is probably on the US News National Universities list because its Carnegie Classification is R1. But you are right that it is more like a LAC than most of the other US News National Universities.
In what ways? It’s very much a university.
Agree that it is very much a university. But it because it is small and 2/3 undergrads it has some of the vibe of schools like Middlebury, Williams, Amherst, etc.
Vibes are cool, but classifications are better. Caltech is also small and majority undergrad, doesn’t make it any less of a research institute.
